Hi guys,

I have brought heaps of stuff from Buyee in the past year or so.

I recently brought a triforce and have just received an email from buyee. That because it contains semiconductors it is now banned from being exported from Japan. This must be why most items are not able to be brought on buyee this year.

They have given me two options, one they will only ship it domestically in Japan for me, the second is they will dispose of it for me.

Does anyone have any ideas? I don’t know anyone that lives in Japan. So I need to find another proxy to ship it for me.

I’m using FromJapan with no issues. Buyee can still bid on things that FromJapan / YAJ sellers have blocked though… I guess there’s pros and cons for all of the proxies.

A mate told me that Tenso is a good Japan address forwarder.

@buffi got hit with this too, I think.

I've had no issues with FromJapan.
Yeah, they refused to send me a X68030 memory expansion.
Current move is trying to ship it to me via blackship.com

Buyee is garbage nowadays. Avoid.
Guess i'm going zenmarket for now.

+1 with Zenmarket able to bid on stuff Buyee won't allow you to. The more you use Zenmarket, the more you level up, which allows you to obtain "credit" on what you can purchase BEFORE you add funds. Level 1 is 10,000yen. Level 2 is 50,000 yen. Just to give you an idea on your options and overcoming adding funds prior to bidding.

Buyee packaging is awful and the protective packing might as well be nothing since they use the thinnest boxes they can get their hands on.

Zen Market packaging is way above the competition.

Thats the opposite of my experience tbh. Protective packaging has always been great for me. Have shipped a bunch of kinda brittle plastic stuff without issues, and plenty of conputers.

Their inability to ship pcbs nowadays means that they are still shit and should be avoided though.

This is how Buyee packed my complete in box PC-88 computer recently. They just bubble wrapped and slapped on a label lol. Too lazy to even find a box.

When Buyee started sending me literal bags without the protective packaging option, I moved all my buying over to other platforms. About the only nice thing I can say about Buyee is that they paid out without any real fuss when I checked all the boxes for their protection plan nonsense. Customer service below average.

From Japan can't understand how to pack certain things and only let's you mark items as fragile if you pester them via email. That gets you a single layer of bubble wrap. Don't use them for posters as they are hit or miss. As long as you keep the packages on the small side, they are fine. If anything goes wrong, expect to jump through near impossible hoops to get paid out. Customer service is above average.

Zen Market has been better all around but they have made a couple of mistakes with posters in the past. Only ever had one claim with them and they were super fair about other delivery issues. My biggest issue with them was how they applied inconsistent and incorrect tariff rates to certain goods (65% on a plastic item) and just downright refused to acknowledge it when their competitors had long fixed the issue. Coming back to them for certain items after using FJ for the last year or so. Just expect to wait a bit with ZM to mark your stuff for arrival and get stuff packaged and back out. Slowest of the three on that front.

For something that big, I would have requested photos of how the seller shipped it to Buyee then make a judgement call on getting protective packaging added with photos. Then you'd know before shipping if you need to fuss with them about their 'lack of' packaging or if it was sufficient.

Damn. Reading this kind of stuff makes me want to start up again. If I did, it would be a friend and I running things as an off-day job. This time it wouldn't be out of my house, so I'd honestly need 100 orders with about 4000 yen service charges each per month to stay afloat ahead of fixed and variable costs, even running it out of a humble small office/very basic studio apartment. Running it out of my house like I did before would not be an option again. Sure I could get it down cheaper, but that would mean half-ass packing, and packing is kind of my thing :D

In any case, this could only happen if I go back, which is still uncertain.

I received a package from Buyee with some SFC and PS1 games today. There was minimal bubble wrap (I guess just whatever the original seller had used). The games were put in paper bags with no additional padding. I'm glad I split the items into two separate shipments. Otherwise, the heavy stuff would have smashed the SFC boxes.

This EXACT thing just happened to me a couple of days ago with a batch of stuff proxied via FromJapan.

The Virtual Boy games were all New Old Stock when they left. This was not the case when they arrived. When I opened the box, I knew straight away.

There was some heavy arcade stuff in there and I think the weight of it banged them out of place and against the box for the journey. They were just wrapped in little plastic bags, one was even just in a freezer bag. 4 beautiful cardboard boxes, DESTROYED.
