2nd Impact defaults to a null encryption key when the battery is removed. Capcom made an oopsie when they attempted to protect it. This loophole was the basis for cracking CPS3 encryption.

All carts default to a null decryption key when the battery is removed. The difference between 2nd Impact and all the other carts is that 2I had a null decryption key from the beginning.

Wow good to know so basically I don’t need to change batteries on my 2nd impact cart I can just remove batteries and no other modifications is needed?

Yes; just keep that black ground wire connected intact on the back of the cart (if your cart is either A or B). Cart’ll work like it did before.
