Hey guys,

I have some damage on an NNC cp lower half which I'd like to repair with bondo and seal with paint to prevent further damage.

My question is, should I use a general purpose bondo putty like this?

Or should I go for a fiberglass specific Bondo, they have a couple of options which seem suitable:

Any pro tips would be appreciated, thanks!

Here's a couple pictures of what I'm dealing with:

Since that is plastic I recommend a plastic glue such as Super Glue Plastic Fusion, which can be sanded and painted once dry.

Maybe something like this would be more appropriate?

J-B Weld 8237 PlasticWeld Plastic Repair Epoxy Putty - 2 oz. https://a.co/d/9n4kdKD

The control panel is dented/cracked but not broken apart completely so I think a putty that can fill in and improve strength might be best?

Edit: Hmm or maybe just some clear epoxy suitable for plastics like this: https://www.homedepot.com/p/J-B-Weld-25-ml-ClearWeld-Quick-Set-Epoxy-Syringe-50112/204986141

That should work too. It's the same thing. Either can be used to fill in the cracks then sand flat. Add extra over the cracks on the inside of the panel and it should be strong. I successfully used Plastic Fusion on a coin entry surround so I know it's compatible with that type of plastic. The part you're working on could be a different type but the glue/putty should still stick if the plastic is clean and sanded first.

I am having a similar problem on my NAC, but i was thinking of looking for a pro to repair and reinforce the crack. Though I was having problems finding a person, and the person i did find things started coming up for him.

Thanks, I’ll probably go for this one since I can pick it up locally:

Looks like pretty much the same thing as Plastic Fusion

I just repaired my NAC control panel with this exact Plastic Bonder (from Home Depot as well :) )

Worked surprisingly well and as Thomas mentions, once dry it sands down nicely.
I ended up wet sanding with 600 -> 800 -> 1200 grit sandpaper to get it smooth and flush.

Great stuff, thanks for the info and confirmation!

Still working on the panel as we speak (a bit more sanding + top coat needed)
but here's the inside sanded down and outside with some primer and paint added.
Note I didn't sand down the inside completely flat as I got tired of sanding but may follow up on it in the future.

Plastic Bonder did the trick! It sort of bubbled out/into the cracks and filled any gaps when it cured.

I've sanded off the excess, so it's got a flat finish and is in solid shape again.

Looks good! Are you planning on painting the CP or keeping as is?

Thanks! I’m thinking I will keep it as is and not paint it since that part should be hidden against the cab once mounted. The rest of the CP looks pretty good so I’d rather not paint if I can avoid it.

Good call and happy to see you got it sorted

That's good that the repair is in the back so no need to paint. If a filler like Bondo was used those usually absorb moisture so paint is needed.

Just reporting back that the JB Weld bonder worked on my NAC. I didn't sand down the glue all the way to base but got it close and painted over. Really my main concern was just repairing the cracks and this looks like it worked.

I had really good results with the JB waterweld line. I used it on an astro surround and even a fiberglass headliner and it held up great in both.
