Hi everyone,
I am experiencing a critical hardware failure with one of my Darksoft CPS2 Multi kits and would appreciate some help or guidance to identify which component died.

The Story:
The kit was fully assembled inside its plastic shell, running perfectly fine inside my Sega Astro City cabinet. After a gameplay session, the game suddenly started rebooting in loops and crashing. After cooling down, it now strictly displays a completely glitched/garbage screen (horizontal noisy lines, broken sprite data) across all tested games. Yesterday, a brief burning smell was noticed coming from the setup right when it started failing.

Troubleshooting Steps Done (Using a Second Working Setup to Isolate):
To isolate the issue, I ran cross-testing with a second, identical, fully working Darksoft CPS2 kit, two healthy A-Boards, and two different Astro City cabinets.
  • Cabinets & Power Supplies: Tested on two different Astro City cabinets (+5V properly adjusted to a stable 5.1V in load). Both cabinets are 100% fine.
  • A-Boards: Tested on two different healthy CPS2 A-Boards. Both motherboards work perfectly fine with the second Multi kit, ruling them out completely.
  • SD Card: Put the SD card from the faulty kit into the working kit -> The game boots perfectly. The SD card and ROM files are 100% healthy.
  • Ribbon Cable: Placed the ribbon cable from the faulty kit onto the working kit -> The game boots perfectly. The ribbon cable is 100% healthy.
  • Pins Inspection: Opened the faulty kit. All the male pins underneath that connect into the B-Board sockets are straight, clean, and perfectly aligned. No bent or broken pins.
Conclusion:
The issue is (I think but knowledge is very limited) strictly isolated to the electronic circuit board (PCB) of the first Multi kit itself. Given the initial burning smell and the permanent graphic corruption across multiple known-good A-boards, a surface-mount component (likely a data buffer chip like a 74-series IC, or a surface capacitor near the J15 ribbon header) has fried under heat.

Does anyone know which specific ICs or buffers handle the background/sprite data line on the Darksoft PCB that I should test or replace first? Or is there a recommended repairer I can send this board to?
