I have vertical bars now after replacing the battery. I “seated” all the roms by pressing them down lightly before I put it back together again after the battery replacement; did I ruin a rom while doing that?

This looks more like broken pin / invalid connection between A and B boards

Idk what I did wrong but it works now. I took it apart and put it back together again. I made sure a and b boards were seated properly together and made sure the screws were even torqued down. I plugged it back in and works with no more vertical bars! I never knew Cps2 was so finicky. Kinda places my confidence with this stuff back to square one. Lol.

press down on all 4 parts of the connector
If you want to confirm 100%, take the cps2 b board out of the shell so you can properly secure the board on the a board properly.
Those lines in my experience is generally because there's a connector not making 100% contact.

I always do a two-hand squeeze around the area of all 4 connectors when connecting them. It's a lot of friction to overcome!
