It's unfortunately just a fact of life. Old optical drives and HDDs with moving parts are going to fail eventually. These drives took a lot of abuse in arcades already so half of mine are dead. And if you search for SCSI CD drives on ebay they are getting scarce. Price-wise it is very easy to justify buying a scsi2sd, especially if you don't currently have a drive.
 
Its great that there's another option that's for sure.
 
That was an amazing cps 3 casing. who sells those? That is great for keeping dust of the board and yet still well vented.

Jasen's Customs was producing those for a while, but I don't think there will be any more until he gets back from deployment. Never hurts to ask him though - he's on here as @JasenHicks
