So after moving my 3S cabinet I turned the machine on and the monitor was straight black. I assumed there was a loose connection so I tried moving and then tightening every component inside the cabinet. Once I had finished, I turned the game back on and the screen was no longer black but now a very dark shade of reddish brown. After that I did the same but this time cleaned up the connections of everything in order to make sure everything was connected well. I turned the system back on and again, dark reddish brown.

I spoke with a friend of mine who thinks that the problem is with the cartridge and that the battery is dead. I'm worried that when I was taking apart the system and cleaning the contacts I may have ruined the cart. Is this a known problem? Will a battery solve my issues? Did I fry the cart and if so, can I get a new one to fix the problem?

It very well could be a dead cart. But you should remove and reseat the cart several times. With the power OFF of course.
 
Once it's dead it's dead. You can convert the cart to a superbios. 3rd strike carts don't come by very often. Having said that I did sell one a few month back.
 
I'm afraid not. The function of the battery is to keep your encryption key for decrypting the information of the game data. Once the battery has lost its charge the encryption key is lost as well. This was security measure implemented by Capcom to deter people from tampering with their code. A few years ago there was no option for revival, but thanks to the hard work of Darksoft, Mistsurugi-w and others the CPS-III has been resurrected. Talk to Mitsurugi-w he can Point you in the right direction
 
I'm sad to hear that. I don't mind doing a conversion as long as the process is either simple enough that a moron like me can manage it or I can get someone reliable to do it for me. I'll look into it.

I've been playing mostly SA3 Yang since around 2006. Before then I mostly used Chun and SA3 Ibuki.
 
Nice, that's what I suspected based on your name. we should play sometime. Do you play on fightcade or Xbox? I main Urien with mako to on the side.
 
Cool, it's not as good as offline, but there isn't a scene where I'm from so that's the only way I can play others. I practice on my cab all the time but, it's hard to hit certain combos and punish certain moves online. I feel you have to predict what your opponent is going to do rather than react.
 
I got my cart back from Mitsurugi yesterday. My CPS3 is up and running again and with more games than just Third Strike. The process was fast too; it took less than a week between when I sent it out and got it back.
