I've successfully cleaned the cart slot on CPS3 boards with a few pieces of thick card dipped in alcohol.
The card that I used is the kind that is dull grey and slightly absorbent, but thick enough to not go, er, flaccid too quickly.
I believe it's often referred to as "greyboard".
