Cyber Lead NTSC PCB Assembly (link board) Info

One of the more unique features of the Cyber Lead cabinet is the "NTSC PCB Assembly" in the back of the cabinet. This serves a few functions.

On the inside it passes JVS from your game through to the IO under the control panel as well as audio from the game up to the audio amp under the control panel. It also has two VGA video inputs and an output. The two inputs are supposed to come from the game, and the output goes to the monitor. (That's why the Cyber Lead JAMMA adapter and System 12 games have two VGA outputs.)

On the outside of the cabinet it has RCA audio, composite video, and s-video outputs. There's also two more ports, DE15 (VGA) and DA15 (DB15). This is for the Cyber Lead link cable. The DE15 connection is the output and DA15 is the input. They share the same pinout. It is essentially VGA with pins repurposed for JVS and audio. JVS mostly occupies the generally unused bus/edid pins, but right channel audio is pin 9 which is +5v. Never plug a VGA source directly into the rear input or output.

Using this info I was able to create a breakout cable for linking to other JVS cabinets with standard VGA, USB, and RCA cables.

One problem I had with this board is it didn't have right audio. I think the caps are going bad, but I just replaced the whole board for now.




Since I had it apart I wanted to clean up the VGA cabling too. I installed a VGA splitter on the back of the coin box which really cleans up and simplifies the wiring when not using System 12 games.


Here's some pics of the link breakout adapter in action. I also found these 6ft ethernet extensions which are perfect for running ethernet to the back of the cabinet.

Do you happen to know if this link functionality still works if you’re using jamma based boards using the namco IO that comes with the CyberLead 1 cabinets?

(Eg, can you plug in a CPS2 using the IO, and still get the linking ability between 2 x Cyberleads, and play head to head SF2?)

I never tried that with the Namco JVS/Jamma adapter but I have with a Jammafier and it works.

Good info and great job on the breakout cable. Why are there two VGA outs on the JAMMA JVS adaptor? I pulled one today and the monitor signal stayed on? Is this because the second cable is going to the VGA out on the comms box?

Yes, it works fine. Friend had a pair using the Namco I/O with 3rd Strike, no issues.

Do you mean on the back of the cab? One is a DE-15 ("VGA", for video output), the other is DB-15 (for the I/O).

If you mean on the inside going to the I/O board, there are two VGA cables to facilitate the cab link; one is a video output to the other cab.

Actually, at the rear one connector is a link input and the other is a link output. The link cable is a DA15 to DE15. Video, audio, and I/O are all on one cable. It's in my first post.

Thanks @notsonic. It took me a couple of days but I’m across what’s going on inside now. Like others I’ve got a few redundant cables in there now, but I like having the original in place instead of wondering what was ripped out throughout its life.
