Yeah, I had one a while back that was blue; blue is far more common. Not that it really matters - I don't think the shell color is of any real importance, but this post seems to more or less confirm it: https://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=64705
I think the Maroon Red was the first pressing and the Blue one came later. I have had both and they have totally different motherboards internally (but interchangeable between both games with no difference).
Ended up keeping the Blue because it was in better condition, but red looks nicer to my eyes. I highly endorse this PGM2 version. Crispy sound alongside the "easier" Tamashii mode

For sure the Tamashii version has much better graphics and sound than the PGM1 version.
Graphics, really ? How so ? Is the resolution different ?
The PGM2 is definitely brighter and pops more than the PGM conversions.
The resolution is the same: 15kHz, however the color depth of the sprites seems way better to my eyes. The result is that it looks a lot more vibrant and has a lot more detail in the shading.

I believe that the Blue version was for China and the Red for Taiwan.
I picked up a blue cart recently, definitely the best looking version of DOJ.
It looks pretty good but it's a pretty mediocre version.
It's basically a White Label DOJ with some bugs that mess up high level scoring, and slightly lower rank.
Black Label on PGM is a lot better imo.
The easier Tamashii mode is pretty neat though.
edit: Btw, not bashing anything about this sale. 520$ seems like a pretty great price!
