DIY Candy Cab Rotation Mech

I think you mean 27" (29" is the overall size of the tube, and not a standard measurement outside of Japan).

The original design posted used a considerably larger CRT (32" viewable), so I don't see how it wouldn't work with a 27 incher if clearance isn't an issue (which very much might be the case since it's a giant ring around the monitor). Regardless, that wasn't so much of an example to follow more than it was a curious memory from me that popped up when I saw the thread topic.
My mistake! I've seen a lot of smaller ones that used a 19 or 25 inch monitor. I'll have to have another look at that post. I've poked around seeking a lazy susan big enough for a 27"+ tube, and I had trouble locating one. I'll have to poke around again I suppose!

Ideally, the rotation mechanism on a cab without rotation clearance would allow the tube to "pull forward" in some manner, rotate and then "push back". I'm thinking something like the telescope mechanism on a steering wheel of a car, or a swing-out mount on a flat panel TV.

That would be ideal! Would solve a lot of problems for sure.

Most humans have rotation mechs built in--one on each side of their body. That's a simple solution. :)

But seriously though, we rotate monitors somewhat often and the most annoying part IMO is less the lifting and rotating of the monitor, and more having to unscrew and rotate the bezel. The Egret 2 has 8 screws which you have to do while holding up the bezel and hoping the plastic doesn't crack this time. Some sort of latch mechanism like the Blast City would make life a lot easier.

I know me and my buddy COULD rotate the monitor in a Blast or an Astro fairly swiftly, but that's not the same as flip the lid open, spin, close. I'm determined to figure something out eventually. lol

yeah tubes are cumbersome.
it's a lot easier with a flat tv :
