Dreamcast - Typing Of The Dead (Translation for international keyboard Layouts)

Hello everyone,

I'm happy to have found my way to the Arcade Projects forum in order to pitch an idea for The Typing Of The Dead (a game I adore).



I'm located in Europe (where it never saw an official release). Each country has its own keyboard layout variations (QWERTY). Sega sold many hardware variations of their official keyboard to take these different layouts into account. In my case (Germany), it's actually QWERTZ. In France, it's AZERTY. Using the German keyboard layout with Typing Of The Dead does technically work, however it's a pain to adjust muscle memory from QWERTZ to QWERTY.

In other words: If I press the "Z" key on a German keyboard, the game registers it as "Y". And vice versa.



So here comes my pitch:
Do you know if it's possible at all to create a hack or sort-of-translation of the game, for example to feed it different words (that spare Y and Z letters) or even to teach it different keyboard layouts? This would be a boon for any non USA or Japan based Dreamcast gamers. Sadly, I myself can't code a thing
