I'm sharing here my idea because I'm a total noob when it comes to Kicad and my soldering skills are very limited.
I have a V3.1 HAS Supergun which lacks the 4 way restrictor function and I was thinking about something which could be useful and with basically no input lag using just logic ports and no microcontrollers.
Basically the idea is a simple JAMMA to JAMMA adapter with 2 74LS86 (4 XOR each) and 2 74LS32 (4 OR each)... all JAMMA pins should go direct except the 4 player 1 directions and the 4 player 2 directions. Now for player 1 we should wire the 4 diagonal couples (UR, DR, DL, UL) to a 74LS86 (XOR) and the outputs should be rearranged by the 74LS32 (OR) so i.e.
  • (U xor L) or (U xor R) = U
  • (U xor R) or (D xor R) = R
  • (D xor L) or (D xor R) = D
  • (U xor L) or (D xor L) = L
This way diagonal would be canceled as in with a mechanical restrictor.
Ideally the adapter could have 8 jumpers or, even better, a 8 pin toggle switch for enabling and disabling the restrictor.

While we are at it a second 8 pin toggle switch could rotate the input by 90 degrees for lazily playing tate games without rotating the screen.

Again this is a quick idea but right now it's way beyond my Kicad skills (which stops at double clicking the icon on the desktop)...
...but maybe somehone could be interested and be able to draw this in a breeze, sharing it here or on GitHub... 🤷

In Italy we use to say "asking is legit, answering is a courtesy" and I'll get "read the fu**ing Kicad manual" as a legit answer...

Thank you in advance

[EDIT]
My bad we need 2 74LS86 (4 XOR each) and 2 74LS08 (4 AND each) so
  • (U xor L) and (U xor R) = U
  • (U xor R) and (D xor R) = R
  • (D xor L) and (D xor R) = D
  • (U xor L) and (D xor L) = L
[EDIT2]
Obviously this can be improved for hitboxes, but, generally speaking, I think it's useful for golden age arcades with sticks.

[EDIT3]
I'm not sure, is JAMMA active low? If so we just need a 74LS00 (NAND) instead of the 74LS08 (AND)... regardless, the basic idea is simple, a JAMMA to JAMMA electronic 4 way restrictor
