Hi, sorry if this has been discussed, but my Google-fu came up short. I’d love to help get this off the ground, potentially through a community crowdfund. Is a PGM conversion of the ESPGaluda PS2 arrange mode even technically feasible?

I understand the arranged music is probably a non-starter, but can the PGM hardware handle the gem rendering that arrange mode relies on? What would it take to motivate someone with the skills to tackle this? Just trying to gauge whether this is worth pursuing before going further.

I won't say no because there are always insanely talented folks out there who love impossible projects, but I can say it's not simple.

PS2 runs on a MIPS processor, PGM runs on M68k. Those are wholly incompatible cpus on all kinds of dimensions, so whoever did it would be annotating disassembly in both languages, then re-implementing any changes in 68k. Funny enough, the music might be more easily port-able since PGM audio is tracked music, and you could export the cd-audio, compress it to fit, and put it in a tracker file. The quality would suffer but it could all be there. :D

Yeah, that all tracks and I really appreciate you laying it out like that. I totally get that this isn’t a straight “flip a switch” port and that the MIPS → 68k side alone is a massive undertaking.

I guess what I’m really trying to feel out is whether this lives in the realm of “basically impossible” or “brutal but technically doable if the right lunatic genius decided to sink a ton of time into it.” Even if the music had to be compromised a bit to fit, the idea of getting PS2 ESPGaluda Arrange in front of more people (and native to PGM) sounds incredibly exciting to me because that mode is genuinely something special.

If this is in the “technically doable but awful” bucket, I’d still be very interested in helping organize funding / bounties / whatever to at least make it worth someone’s time to experiment.
