I just received an ExpressCard CF adapter I purchased via Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NPJP1TD/ref=cm_sw_r_em_api_i_c_Fz4pDbEMC5RGR

It didn’t play well with the CF Tools ataid.exe program and output an ataid message, “error, identity failed on device.” Looking at the label on my device, it’s usb, and therefore not friendly to my needs.

I hoped the device would work like a PCMCIA PC Card. Perhaps I’m misunderstanding the ExpressCard standard.

Interesting, it says it supports pio mode which I imagined would work, I was looking at a similar device but I might give it a miss now.

pcmcia is like ISA bus,
pci has multiplexed address and data sent on alternate clock cycles.
they are totally different!!
