Purchased one of the post-crackle boards. Completed the installation process today. The audio sounds like it's operating at about 75%. There is definitely something missing or distorted.
Rev 4 board
G PAL, no pin lifted. Pin 9 back of the board to C13 on CN5 (also tried an F PAL with the requisite pin 7 lift and connection to J17
No video issues.
"A" Board working fine with other B boards.
No bent pins
Jumpers correctly set.

Time passes...

I made one more attempt this evening but bent a single pin. Now it's hosed. Grr.

You can replace the pin. For a revision 4 pcb I would bend the pal pin out and connect it directly to J17. It usually fixes the issue with earlier boards.

Lifting pin 9 on the G PAL and connecting it to J17 resolved the sound issue.

Feedback: I appreciate the help, although I would have preferred to find the solution in a FAQ, trouble-shooting guide, video or in the forums. I sifted through hundreds of messages and multiple viewings of various videos. Your statement: "It usually fixes the issue with earlier boards." indicates that this is a known problem for the early rev boards. I suggest you sticky a trouble-shooting guide on page one. It would have saved me hours of frustration. One of the joys of tech - so many permutations and combinations to consider.

I'll probably be more charitable after the aggravation index settles down.

I realize you have some statements about rev 3/4 boards + J17 in the install guide but it isn't very clear.
