Hey mate,Hello.
I’m not sure if this counts as advice, but
Genpei rom kits are occasionally sold on Yahoo! Auctions
for around $400. That’s where I got mine, too.
For the System 86 motherboard, please get the Rolling Thunder, which is relatively inexpensive and easy to find, as it uses the same system board.
(I recommend it because it also includes the sound board required for the Genpei ROM)
...That said, lately there’s been a rise in shops and sellers
who use the “shortage tactic” to take advantage of enthusiasts and raise prices. There are also more unscrupulous shops (like Beep in Akihabara, Japan) that buy up all the boards to artificially inflate prices.
Honestly, I wish they’d cut it out.
Back in the 2000s, you could buy Genpei with motherboards for around $150. (Market prices have risen because of unscrupulous shops like Beep that hoard stock and resell it at inflated prices.)
I filed a complaint telling them to stop their shady business practices, but maybe it was too inconvenient for them—they didn’t say a word back and just hung up on me (lol)
