Yesterday my GuitarFreaks V5 machine stopped working right when I was playing, after that it doesn't boot anymore. The PC seems to be working well, it is displaying a "no bootable device found" message after boot. I see it does not detect the HDD at all. I tried reseating the SATA cables but nothing changed.

I brought the whole HDD assembly to my desk, took it out of the case and connected it to my PC: nothing happened, it does not spin at all.
Sounds like the logic board of the drive died, I may be trying to get another HDD and for a transplant, it's a WD 1600AAJS-00WAA0
But anyways I would like to migrate it to a newer HDD or SSD.

I also have a DrumMania V5 machine and I'm quite worried about it ending with the same fate. Is there a way to back up my own disk to be ready for when it fails?

I even tried installing the DrumMania V5 disk in the GuitarFreaks V5 PC and it booted, to later give a "security error" probably about the wrong dongle (it is looking for drummania dongle).

Appreciate any advice!

Turns out the disk does spin up when held in certain position, so created an image of it using Clonezilla, 4 bad sectors found.
Restored the image to a larger 320gb 2.5'' sata drive, installed it back into the cabinet and success! It just works, it does not care about HDD serial, model or size (might upgrade it to SSD later then).
I just thought it would be like the Taito Type Zero that has an HDD serial check in some games
