I'v got a Hantarex MTC 9110 monitor which is run from a Hantarex US 250 PSU, not sure how stable these are in the "long run" though it's recapped etc.

Anyone know if it would be alright to hook up a step down transformer directly to the schasi of the monitor instead of going via the us 250?.

I see this is marked for "US Only" not sure if it realy matters (mine is a euro spec) ?

Also I see the "degaus circuit" seem to be marked with 220V in the schematic but AFAIK the US 250 only put out about 128V ?

EDIT: on second thought I guess it would get the 220v from a 110v when it is connected like this - so I guess my main concern is 110V vs 120/128V input from a step down transformer.

Is the degausing coil constantly beeing energised by 220V?

Yes, you can connect the 128V AC output of a transformer directly to the MTC9110 monitor.

This was already done some time ago with the MTC900 & MTC9000 monitor. Just be careful to place the transformer as far away from the CRT as possible to avoid magnetic field disturbances, and ground the metal part of the transformer. Alternatively, use a toroidal transformer.

Any idea if it's very picky about that voltage or does it accept 110-115V input from a step down transformer ?

That's a big difference; it won't damage the monitor, but you won't get good results. You'll need at least 125V.

A quick example.

In Spain, it's a relatively common transformer: in the mid-20th century, the mains voltage was 125V AC.

I run my MTC 9110 with a simple 2:1 transformer. 230V goes in, 115V comes out.

It's just at the bottom of the recommended range, but runs fine.

Ahh, yea, not that common around here it seems, any idea if carrefour does international shipping ? (I guess they generally don't have these in the stores ?) (Of to the canaries again in january, but doubt they have any readiliy available down there ?) :)
