Hi, everyone! My name is MakutaMaster962. I only stumbled upon this forum just yesterday. I signed up because I am in need of assistance with a few arcade-related things, and I'm hoping that you guys can help me. :)

Thanks! :D I wasn't expecting such a fast reply back.

Here is my situation: I am currently in possession of a Yellow Lindbergh motherboard with what I believe is a Nico-type multigame kit(which has generic gamepad support) that I got from this ebay user named "mar.vetto." The kit came with a HDD, a security chip and a cf card. However I've been unable to even properly boot up the machine. I now know that, at the very least, I need a Sega JVS I/O PCB. The 2 main games I would like to play here at home are: House of the Dead 4 and House of the Dead EX.

Now, I've read here on the forums that the Nico-type multigame kit is very buggy, and I don't want that.

My questions are:

1) Which revision of the Sega JVS I/O board will I need to play the 2 games mentioned above?
2) What other components will I need(type of lightgun, connectors, cables, etc.)?
3) Exactly how can I go about buying the things I need from this forum?

I'm still quite new to this whole thing, so please go easy on me. :)

I don't know a ton about the Nico kit as far as controls go for certain games. I have no idea of they have hacked certain controls to work with the gun games or not. But I do know for sure that you will need a Sega JVS I/O to play the games. A rev. 1 JVS will work fine for all games on the NIico kit. If you use our kit there are a few games that require a Rev 2 or 3 but the Nico kit has them hacked down to use Rev. 1. I don't know how well that works of course. I think both of those games use Rev. 1 anyways.

You can modify a positional gun to use with those games. You can also use my S-JIHP pcb to interface those controls with the games. You can find more info about this in my section of the forum and there are videos about it on my Youtube page. I know HOTD4 works good with my S-JIHP but I'm not sure about EX as I have never been aboe to play it because the display mode is not compatible with my setup so I can only see 1/4 of the screen. I'm curious to know if the Nico kit has this issue.

If you have further questions feel free to ask them in the forum section it applies to. That way everyone else can learn from your questions also.

What display mode were you using when you tried House of the Dead EX? The Nico Kit has 2 versions of House of the Dead EX listed as "HD Only," with the only difference between them is one of them lets you custom bind the pedal to either the start button(for guns without buttons), or to Extra button 1(for guns that do have buttons).

I've used the gun games on my Lindbergh box using an analog joystick.
I think if you use guns you would need the proper LED guns and the gun I/O board like the real thing?
The multi-kits work with an analog joystick fine but of course that's not the same a using a light gun.
the later games using gun I/O + sensor LEDs that go around the monitor bezel are a pain in the ass. Would be good if someone made some gun board where you can use the regular light guns with the newer games that normally need LED guns.

On some systems yes but not the ones that use the Sega JVS I/Os. You can bypass the LED sensor I/O and use X/Y guns or a Joystick to play the games. If you use an X/Y gun and calibrate it then it works very well though I realize the experience is a bit different with a fixed gun as opposed to a gun you hold.

You can see in my Youtube vids where I use my S-JIHP interfaced with a JVS I/O to play light gun/LED gun games on both Naomi and Lindbergh. Also works with Chihiro for sure. I played through HOTD3 last night actually.

It does not work for System 246/56 even though you can use the Sega JVS I/Os. Those systems use a different I/O type for handling the analog inputs.

yeah I know about S246 guns. I have almost all the games and several I/O boards :-D

a 'fixed' gun like Operation Wolf would work ok if it were fixed because then you can move the position rapidly and aim by looking down the barrel. A joystick as a gun just sucks dog's balls

Mitsurugi-w, Did you get the chance to look at this yet?

I got the info from the link below:

Yes. Lol. It was the first thing I used to play Rambo and it is not ideal. Wouldn't be so bad if the games had a cursor. I just bought a Rev X gun instead and hooked it up using my S-JIHP. I also used an Operation: Thunderbolt gun with an adapter (which I sell) to connect it directly to my S-JHIP.

If I'm not mistaken Operation Wolf uses a fixed light gun.

I never tried it on Nico's kit. There is only one version on the kit we sell. Once you get it up and running you can test it to see if you have full screen. It honestly could just be my setup giving me display issues.
