I have got a HotD3 that I am attempting to get reliably running via net booting. This is a dedicated cabinet and has run for years in my care with the original GD-ROM drive, but it has become increasingly flaky.
I have installed DragonMinded's Netboot utilities on a Beelink Mini S12 PC running Ubuntu 24.04 and successfully transferred the game file to the cabinet hardware now dozens of times. The game will run (cycling through attract mode or playing normally) for 10 minutes before rebooting to the Chihiro splash screen and jingle with "Error 33 - Gateway is not found". The time from the game starting up after the Bin file is finished transferring to the error is pretty precisely 10 minutes, I have timed it with a stopwatch quite a few times.
When on the Error 33 screen I can run the script to send the Bin file again and get another 10 minutes of the game running. I can always ping the NetDIMM and get a response, so the connection is not dropping. When running the netdimm_info command all the info reads the same whether the game is running or on the error screen.
The NetDIMM has firmware 3.03 and the original Security PIC. Is it important to update the firmware if I only want to run a single game? Similarly, if only running the one game (that the original Security PIC matches) should I need a Zero Key to make this work?
Thanks!
