I somehow remapped the buttons on an MVS without rewiring. How is this possible?

Here's how it happened:

I have a consolized MVS with Unibios 4.0 & USB controller ports. I have a Haute T-13 leverless/hitbox style pad that I use for fighting games. So last night, I decided to change the color of the buttons on the Haute pad while in the middle of a game. You have to use a button combination on the pad to do this: hold Start + Select, then press various buttons. Naturally, this Start +Select combo brought up the Unibios cheat screen, but it didn't end up selecting anything (no debug or anything like that). And this must have altered the button layout, because when I went to play again later, the main ABCD buttons were totally different (Up, down, left, & right remained the same). The I/O test screen confirmed it.

And here's the kicker: this remapping remained even when I plugged in different controllers! And it was consistent across different cartridges. I cleared the RAM and even unplugged the console and waited 24 hours to see if maybe it would forget. But nope! The remapping remained hardwired.

I somwhow got the remapping back to its original configuration by fiddling around with the same Haute pad in the I/O test screen. It was almost as if I cycled through different predetermined button configs. I has always heard that this wasn't possible without rewiring the buttons, so how did this happen?

Anyone figure out how to reset to default? I’m also stuck with wrong mapping.

No clue, tried almost all button combo’s on my consolized MVS. While I was testing it it switched a few times. I thought I was going mad. Also blamed it first on my 8bitdo controllers, but confirmed with multimeter it was the consolized. Had to get my MVS replaced for faulty YPrPb out. New one is on it’s way.

Hello. I seem to have changed the button layout too and I don't know how. I use a cMVS with both usb and "original" controller ports, and I only use an original NGCD controller with it. But all of a sudden it's like ABCD buttons rotated. A is now B, B is C, and so on. Does anyone know how the hell this happened and how to reset it to default?

Try these.

Try these.
Thank you.

For like the first 10 times, I thought either I was stupid or my cMVS was wired a different way or something. That pic looks very helpful but doesn’t tell where/when exactly you need to push those buttons, or for how long, or if really at the same time or start-select first and then whatever.

But finally, kept select-start pushed during the title/bios screen, THEN pushed A once, all before the game (or the game selection menu) starts, and when I selected a game the buttons were back to their default mapping at last!!

Yeah sorry for the lack of details, I don't even have one of these. I have just seen this issue pop up a few different times, but never saw any info about how to actually use the button combo. Glad you were able to get it worked out.

No worries. It was useful, I simply had to figure it out a bit myself.
Thank God for the internet, anyway. If this had happened to me just a few years ago I would have assumed the board was screwed up beyond repair or something ;(:D
