imbord3rlin3's Egret 29 Restore Thread

The power supply pcb looks a lot like the nac power supply in mine🤔dude found an egret 29 before I found a mmp!total legend💪
The NAC power supplys (400-5198 and 400-5261) are completely different. More caps in the sega ones, I believe, and the power switch is built into the Psu enclosure. 5v adjustment on sega is inside in the middle of the psu and the pot for the e29 is at the front up top just behind the large connector. The egret 29 power supply is a lot closer to the egret 2 power supply but looks to be incompatible due to the different location of the key on the 12? Pin connector.

Also, thank you for the kind words. I would also like a muchi pork one day... guess the only pork in my near future is actual bacon and ham.

To be honest this cab looks to be better (more complete/original) than the first one you were thinking of picking up so I think this really worked out for you in the end.

After our discussion on the keys for these I 3D modeled my key:
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5888442

would probably be best to print using an SLA or similar Resin printer due to the necessary tolerances.

Of course if you need any advice let me know I've restored two of these already!

took note today of the power supply.

i agree this cab is probly nicer than the other one. i am so beyond thrilled to have this cab!

i appreciate you taking the time to 3d scan the key, i will add it to the 1st post for others to utilize as well. i am in kahoots with a friend who is sourcing compatible keys from Taito, and while they arent 100% original to the cab (im trying to get as close to 100% all original as reasonably possible) they are still official taito products, so i think ill let that slide. i have worked with resin in the past (ala forgeworld from warhammer 40k) and i think that while it would work, it would most assuredly not last too long as resin can be pretty brittle. i think the safe bet is to order from taito and use those. then i could key all my birds alike and only need 1 key to rule them all.

i most certainly plan on picking your brain when i get to the stages of restoration that need it. mainly the whitening of the plastic on the hood and the restoration of the control panel. i am waiting on that until the weather gets consistently warmer. in the meantime i am just sprucing up what i can and documenting all the mechanisms and parts i can. as you know, there is no manual just a parts manual and schematic. i would like to compile as much info as i can into 1 consolidated thread so current and future owners can benefit from the knowledge. im considering pooling all our restore logs and making an "Egret 29 Appreciation/ Owners Thread" thread on the forum. if you cant tell already, i have fallen head over heals for this cab and want to do all i physically can to ensure there is information out there recorded on it. if u look at arcade otaku u will see almost nothing as far as info on the cab and stuff like the picture of inside the control panel is of poor quality at best and doesnt really reflect the look of the actual cp properly. let me know what your thoughts are on me starting up an appreciation thread.

i appreciate your kind words and reaching out to help me. it is much appreciated. we bird bros now

I finished a restoration a few months ago on mine. Mine looked about the same shape, if not worse than yours. I went down to every screw, wire, paint, sticker or cap, was replaced or restored. I had quite a few custom parts designed or made to help out with things that were not off the shelf during restoration. Never got around to doing a restoration thread like this, but looking forwarded to seeing your progress. This is the 4th cab I restored and for sure was the most challenging. I was not as fortunate as you to get one semi local, I had to get mine directly from japan, the months it took to get here were agonizting as I figured it would arrived smashed to bits, it all worked out, not without its own adventures.. but here we are. My grail cab as well.

Twisted helped me quite a bit with his prior restoration with advice. If I can help let me know. I have done a few mods to mine that are not stock but work for me, only thing i have not done is applied to the metal service stickers to the rear.

That’s so beautiful you don’t even need to turn it on.

I would just sip slowly and stare at that thing for hours..

I think its a no smoking sticker? Im sure its from the arcade it came from. I didnt remove it for fear of the anodizing under it being a different color from the rest of the panel and keeping a bit of its history intact.

i google translated it and it says UNDERAGE smoking is illegal. lmao. seems its old enough to be where smoking was still acceptable. nifty little extra sticker! i think that was added by the owner operator tho. def adds to the history of the cab, like u said. im glad you kept it.

The marquee is green not yellow, the back piece is translucent green and has the artwork silkscreened in white on the front of it. then there is a clear, unmarked places piece that bolts to the front of it to hold the art in place.
