Initial D ringedge question

I recently acquired a stage 6 machine and I'm hoping to be able to switch to stage 7 and 8 somewhere down the road.

Are the other ringedges w/ security key the only thing I'll need to upgrade to the other stages? I'm fairly positive the answer is yes for stage 7, but stage 8 has the separate server towers. Would I need a server if I'm just playing single player, non-linked?

you do not need the tower (which is another ringedge, with a jvs card(!!) , a power supply, for the jvs card!, a router and hub ) if you have a single game, no.
