Initial D ver.3 twin - how do I get them to link together to play against each other

are you running this with the origional gd-roms or are you net booting them?

I swapped the optic cables and it never leaves “now checking network” screen. I know i had those correct per the manual.

I also was reading about people adjusting the power supplies so i tuned mine to exactly 3.3v, 5v and 12v. Unfortunately that didnt do anything either.

Have you made sure the optical cables are fully inserted and there is nothing blocking the red beam of light on either side? Sometimes those types of cables can be a bit janky, or even broken somewhere along the cable. Playing with the cables might improve your results.

At this point I think it would be helpful if you made a video of your exact test mode settings and a demo of the problem too

to me this says that you had the cables correct to begin with.

it sounds like it's booting properly, finding the other cab and then never loading the rest of the game properly. I wonder if both cabs think they're master or both cabs think they're slave.

I have set the left cab to seat #1 and the right cab to seat#2 and i have also tried to reverse them.

When the right cab is seat#1 and the left cab is seat#2 it makes it to the “card r/w initializing...” screen, you can hear the car rev sound but, then jumps back to “searching network now” screen and starts over. It will continue to do this repeating itself.

I have swapped cables, purchased new cables, held the cables down into the naomi during the boot up... nothing seems to work. Ill keep tinkering and you guys keep thinking. We can figure this out. Thanks guys!!

what is the gdrom disc ID? reason i am asking is if the export version gd-rom is used with usa bios or vise versa the game will go black like you are describing. i went through bad headaches with this issue.

when dealing with this issue set both games up seperate first. get it confirmed that the attract mode cycles several times on both machines seperately. let the games cycle for about 30min to 1hr. if you find they lock up black this is the issue. fix the correct bios to the correct gdroms make sure all match country wise between both machines. then once that is resolved then link the 2 machines together.

I will look into the gd-rom disc versions but, I have had both machines running separately. I have played on both sides when they are set up separately.

I also encountered many problems for the link.
I tested with different cards NAOMI2, dimm board, bios, card link, cables ...
Today it works, with a Compact Flash version ... I do not know why!

That could be the reason why they were sold. The link up stopped working.

ok do the discs have the same rev? disks are sometime finicky like that and other times they are not.

Do you have the card readers? If so turn them on. I doubt it has an impact but it might. Someone correct me if i am wrong please.

Yes, i have the card readers and have tried booting them with the card readers plugged in and unplugged. I have also tried booting them with thd card readers on and off. Thanks for continuing to help!!

I would check and confirm that both systems are running the same BIOS if you haven't already.

Aside from that you can hunt down another Naomi 2 and see if it behaves any differently. Wouldn't hurt to have a spare in any case.
