Hello, my question is pretty much the title of this thread, I'm gonna receive a Sega Chihiro soon mainly for my Maximum Tune 3 Cab and I'm still pretty new to this whole scene. A game I always wanted to play at home was Virtua Cop 3, and since I'm actually getting the hardware that runs the game I feel now I have a good chance as any now. I heard about Open JVS and to my understanding it makes it possible to use USB controllers on arcade hardware, I have a pair of Sinden light guns and I was wondering if it's even possible to get that going with it, and if it is what would the process be like to get everything up and running?

I don't think anyone has Sinden working. You would also need a separate device to create the border around the picture.

GunCon 3 works:

Of course, just because someone hasn't made it work, doesn't mean you couldn't.

Nice, I also do have 2 Guncon 3's and really do like those controllers so wouldn't mind using those either.

Good question, I need to revisit the OpenJVS hat, my idea was using the Guncon 2, as it's a CRT gun and doesn't rely on any external sensors (it uses csync). But I don't know of anybody who got it working yet, and the setup is a little bit involved if you don't know your way around Linux... I will ask chunksin if he could possibly add the drivers to the WiPi image.

Also do I need a patched version of the game for this to work? For example if I were to use the original GD ROM copy to run this game would it even work?

No, original should work fine.
Awesome, I guess all that's left to do now is to get a raspberry PI with OpenJVS, do people sell those as a kit? Or do I gotta just wing it and build it myself? If so do you have a place that can point me in the right direction?

there's a video on the official channel of them playing Rambo on Lindbergh, so presumably that should work for all Sega Type II IR, which includes Chihiro games like VC3.

I'm surprised Sinden doesn't offer a device that can inject the border to any video like an on-screen display, I know there exists devices to do that for many other applications.

Tbf, I don't think they're using original hardware here

hmm... I didn't even consider that.

seems bizarre to me that they can't support a simple 5V analog output from their setup. Is there any documentation on the sinden hardware for developers?

Honestly at this point I'm totally cool with using the Guncon 3's I find them cooler, and it'll be nice to use them for more then the 3 games they were made for.
