Issue transplanting alpha 2

Transfered this from an asian english alpha 2 board I had to a Rental board I had extra. Tried most of the alpha2/zero2 infinikey codes but no luck always blue screen, one code had black screen. Wondering what went wrong. Any ideas? I took these out of the Asia B board a long time ago, so it is possible I swaped the pal or something on accident.

Also what infinikey code is correct?
label says zero 2 First eeproms say alpha 2, it is in english. remaining 'proms say sz2. bit of a weird format.

You would need to dump them to be sure.

ALPA2 doesn't make any sense. The correct code for an Asian Zero 2 is SZ2A.

Several things are unusual about this board

Those labels do not look original. Wrong font for the ROM names, the Capcom Blue is wrong and on several the Capcom text is blurry, and they look like paper not foil

The EXC5 capacitor that normally holds the keys has been removed and relocated to the bottom of the board, presumably to ensure that keys are not retained causing issues with booting decrypted code

ALPA2 as nem mentioned is not a correct name for any ROM set. All games have region as the last digit - should be SZ2A, SZ2J etc

My guess is this is a conversion probably made using Phoenix ROMs - it won’t boot with an Infinikey because it’s not encrypted code

Try removing the Infinikey and see if it boots - if it does, and especially if the splash screen says Phoenix, you will need to erase and reprogram the ROMs with the encrypted code prior to installing the Infinikey

That is pretty odd, should I re-solder the EXC5 capacitor on somewhere else? I tried removing it and testing again earlier. I thought a pheonix couldn't use normal proms and needed to be replaced with eeproms, am I missing something there?

Phoenix code replaces main program code which is always EPROMs regardless of being factory or decrypted code. Capcom regularly released updates for games and ROMs needed to be replaced

No need to worry about EXC5 because you’re using an Infinikey. You need to replace the main program code (ROMs 3-10) with encrypted original code, install the Infinikey with correct jumpers set and you should be good to go

Yes, you can have whatever region you like

You will need to change the jumpers on your Infinikey to match the region of your ROMs

I removed the infinikey to see if infinikey interfering with potential pheonix code was the problem.
same result as with the infinikey installed, dark blue screen.
Should I change my plan of buying a new set of mask roms?

You don’t need mask ROMs - you need main program ROMs

Install decrypted ROMs in positions 3-10 first with no Infinikey to determine if you have a working board

After you have confirmed the board is working, replace the code in 3-10 with encrypted code and install your Infinikey

The mask ROMs have nothing whatsoever to do with your problem, they are for the sound and graphics
