Hello everyone,

I'd like to release this interesting conversion that I made with the invaluable help of @Tailsnic Retroworks and that I'm sure that will be very interesting for you. This is just an example of how many non destructive conversions can be done. This was fun to do, although took longer than expected.

Please like the video, post your comments in the video and here and let me know what you think about and what would you like to see next. I hope you like it!

I love this new chapter of AP with everyone doing How-To Videos! :D
I'd love a dive into PLD stuff. From extracting the equations from mame or a dumped/reversed jed, to understanding what they're doing on the pcb, to hand-crafting a new one. @Darksoft is doing some of that in this vid but a many of the steps are 'I did this already' :D

It's a missing piece for me anyway.

Ill make a video on that, just because you asked.

I'm curious what tools you use and if they differ from mine.

I'm pretty much just WinCUPL, I haven't had any luck with other software (not for lack of trying).

WinCUPL isn't too bad, it still runs in Win11 and supports the most common GALs (and even more advanced CPLDs) but is extremely buggy.
Unfortunately as soon as you'll need to make new designs for obsolete chips, you'll need obsolete software running in a VM (Win98/WinXP). Each with a different user interface and syntax. Here's what I use:
- WinPLACE for PEEL devices
- MachXL for MACHs
- Quartus (various versions) for Altera MAX5000s/MAX7000s, etc
- MAX+ plus II for EP6xx
- etc.

I got WinPLACE to boot and run but it hangs on compile :(

only other one I've tried is ispLEVER, any experience with that?

Maybe worth someone doing a video on editing a driver and rebuilding it from source & toolchain?

I got WinPLACE running in a WinXP VM (not sure if any SP is installed), limiting the amount of RAM of the machine and maybe forcing the compatibility mode. I can check all of that for you.

ispLEVER is a great tool that supports the rather uncommon GAL18V10 devices, useful to replace some PLS153s when pin 9 is used as an output. However they switched to a paid licence some years ago so you must use a trick to get it running (either a cracked version or old enough so that it only checks the date not the MAC address of the machine).

[EDIT]
Leaving the details of my setup here for running WinPLACE so everyone has access to them:
- Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3 (in a VM, host OS is Win11)
- 1GB of RAM
- WinPlace Version 2.1
- no specific compatibility mode enabled

Was there any files released for this anywhere that I could try out? <3
Thanks in advance!
