Man, brings me back to the late 90's/early 2000's. When the world was on the cusp of going from VHS tapes to DVD. The only digital media format back in those days were VCD's which were never popular in the US. Only a few US DVD players could play VCD's. Even fewer US DVD players could play VCD's burned on CD-R. Playstation VCD player was a way to ensure you could watch a VCD burned on CD-R on your TV. I used to be a Op on the biggest DVD ripping channel on IRC: #pcdvd. The kid that got his ass sued by the MPAA for being a part of the group that broke DVD encryption with DeCSS was on that channel too as an Op. And I used to work at Plextor, who made the Ferrari's of optical drives. The Playstation VCD player was a big-big-big part of my life, until the PS2 rolled around and I got a DVD burner.

Alas, I'd have no use for this. But thanks for the nostalgia.

I had one of these as a kid as well. Some of them you needed to solder one wire, some of the others are solderless installs and just require a disc swap, which is how I think this one works. The spring goes on the drive door latch to enable the disc swap. The one I had needed the one-wire installed, and we had that done by a local shop that sold pirate games and VCDs. Good times.

GLWS!
