I recently picked up a Karate Champ that works well, except for some sprite issues. The backgrounds and player sprites work correctly, but moving sprites in the cut scenes and the judge sprites are gobbledegook.
I went though the boards looking for cold solder joints, found none. I removed the ROMs, checked that each pin was clean, seated, and had continuity to the next point on the board; everything there checks out.
I do not have a ROM reader/writer so I can't tell if there is an issue with the chip or data itself. Would that be the next likely cause? How hard/expensive would it be to order a new set of chips, if so?
I also don't have a way to test the CPUs, is it possible the data is fine but being processed incorrectly?
