Hello all, got this board a while back trying to see if it can be saved. When it boots in comes up to a white and black zig zag pattern. I noticed a missing resistor that was replaced by a jumper. Looking for a replacment for this as well. But nothing else about the board stands out as an issue. Any help would be appreciated.

I’m actually in the middle of working on two KI boards myself, so I figured I’d share what I’ve run into in case it helps.

The first board I bought would boot, but only to a blue scrolling screen with a single bong sound. Digging into it, I found the CPU was a complete mess—tons of bent and lifted pins everywhere. After a long session of straightening, reflowing, and checking continuity, I think I managed to save it because it at least shows signs of life now.

My second KI board was basically a donor when I got it, so I had to track down all the missing ICs and even source a new CPU, which I just installed today. Right now I’m waiting on a 10 MHz crystal to arrive before I can test it further.

Based on what I’ve seen, I’d definitely recommend closely checking the CPU pins, especially along the edges. KI boards are notorious for having bent, lifted, or oxidized pins that cause all kinds of weird behavior.

Also, I remember seeing someone on YouTube fix the missing component issue you mentioned by replacing it with a small SMD fuse, so that might be worth looking into as well.

Hope that helps a bit! Let us know what you find.
