WTB Killer instint acrylic case

Want To Buy
If you're open to something beyond acrylic: I designed a fully enclosed 3D-printed case in carbon fiber PETG for my own Killer Instinct board measured directly from the real hardware, with active cooling built in (dual Noctua fans over the CPU, those boards run hot), magnetic access hatches and hex mesh ventilation. Tested on both KI1 and KI2 boards.

Not a product listing, just sharing what worked for my setup but if you're interested in something similar, feel free to PM me.

Just finished a new design for the Killer Instinct case and planning the button switch for multi mod.

@acbragajunior Can you make generic case for the Midway Wolf PCBs?
Yes, I can design a case for the Midway Wolf Unit PCB. I have access to an Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 board here, which should use the same board layout.

If you can send me some clear photos and measurements of your PCB, we can confirm together that the overall dimensions match. Once we verify compatibility, I can make the case design.

And yes, I’m selling it.

@acbragajunior that new KI design is awesome - you are truly talented at 3d design. Are you selling these?
Would love to see one for Mortal Kombat 1 and 2 and 4 as well
Thank you very much! MK1 is already in the project queue. I’ve already designed an adapter that mounts the sound board above the main board, keeping them securely stacked together. This should make the complete board set more compact and easier to protect inside the case.

I actually made an MK2 case as one of my first projects because that board set is especially difficult to store safely. However, I plan to redesign it, as my designs and construction methods have evolved considerably since I started making cases for my own PCBs about a year ago. I’ll attach a photo of that first MK2 project to this reply, just so you can compare it with my latest Killer Instinct design and see how much the cases have evolved since then.

MK4 is also on my list. Ultimate MK3 use Wolf Unit hardware, while MK4 I'm not sure if its the same. So I’ll need to treat it as a separate design and confirm all the dimensions and mounting points.
If you have an MK4 PCB, you could help me by sharing its dimensions and mounting-hole measurements. That would give me a good starting point for the design.
I’ll keep sharing the progress here as the new designs are completed.

It's the same PCB. Been converting between NBA Maximum Hangtime, UMK3, and WWF Wrestlemania on 2 boards. It's all just EPROM swaps.

Perfect! Then leave it with me. I’ll work on the case design and share the project here soon. Thanks for confirming!

All the WOLF PCBs are exactly the same dimensions. Whatever you come up with (UMK3)should be correct. Also great job on the other cases. As others have mentioned you have a skill thats needed and I’m still learning. I recently bought the Qidi MAX4 390X390X340 (build volume) for strictly for printing cases for PCBs.

Good to know all the WOLF PCBs share the same dimensions, that makes things a lot easier. I'll base the design on the UMK3 I have here then.

That Qidi MAX4 is a great machine, and that build volume is perfect for PCB cases, you won't have to split parts like a lot of people do. If you ever run into questions about tolerances, clearances, or any headache in the design side of things, feel free to reach out. Happy to share what I've learned so far.

I've been running a few machines from the BambuLab line here and I've been really happy with them, both the print results and how easy they are to maintain. Makes a big difference when you're printing parts that take over a day each.

At this point I'm on a mission to make a case for 100% of my PCBs, mostly so they stay well protected and are easy to grab and use whenever I want to swap something into the cab. Still a lot of boards to go, so plenty of work ahead of me.

I like to buy a Killer Instinct Multi case (one that has a button switch for multi mod).

Quick update for everyone following this thread.

The Wolf Unit case is done. I designed it around my UMK3 board, so as HardAzRockz confirmed, it should fit NBA Maximum Hangtime, WWF Wrestlemania and any other Wolf PCB as well.

Same recipe as the other cases in the series:
  • Printed in a premium carbon fiber reinforced filament, matte finish. This one is blue, but black, red and purple are also available.
  • Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 logo embossed on the top, plus a multicolor printed label on the spine with the dragon logo and Sub-Zero artwork.
  • Hex vent grids on all four corners for passive airflow.
  • Magnetic hatch on top for direct access to the dipswitches, no need to open the case.
  • Reset button built into the top of the case, so you can press the PCB reset from outside.
  • Front opening for the JAMMA edge, plus a CPS2 style kick harness connector right above it, so you can use the same kick harness you already have for your Capcom boards.
  • Removable mounting feet with screw holes, so you can bolt it inside a cab or take them off for the shelf.
  • The board slides in on internal rails, very few screws involved.
And since I was already deep in Midway territory, I also finished the Mortal Kombat 1 (Y-Unit) and Mortal Kombat 2 (T-Unit) cases. The MK4 one was posted a while ago, so the whole MK arcade lineup now has a matching set of cases for the shelf.

Photos below. Feedback welcome, and if anyone wants one, just send me a PM.
