Sup guys,

Got a couple of questions, and hoping someone can help me out with? Picked up this controller panel from Japan and was wondering what the yellow gup is inside the panel?
Was it there to protect the cables/hold them in place as the unit moves around underneath the gearing? Are other fishing controller panels like this?
Should I take it apart and clean it up? As you can see it did at one point leak out and onto the edge of the panel.

Found what looks like a NOS stick only replacement but can't tell if it has the wire harness with it.

Thx for the help guys.

My guess that is spilled soda. Would explain why it's on the edge of the panel and inside the stick assembly.

If you do decide to buy the NOS stick, I would be interested in your old used joystick housing. Mine is shattered.

While it could be spilled soda, the other possibility is that the rubber padding/spacer (edit: the manual calls it a "stopper") that goes between the top base place and the microswitch area has started undergoing rubber reversion due to age and/or storage conditions. I have seen this happen with the Fisherman's Bait/Bass Angler fishing rods where that rubber has gone from a solid to a tacky gel still barely in the form of the spacer or, worse, sticky liquid sludge.

[Edit: Added pictures of one of the rods I have in my project pile.]
