Konami Cobra Hardware Troubleshooting and Discussion (Fighting Bujutsu: Wu-Shu)

i don't, but it wasn't a general purpose tool that anyone could use. it was targeted at whatever issue(s) our specific boards were having at the time. maybe Phil can clarify but I always got the impression he was basically writing code for X purpose, burning it to a new bios chip, and running it on the hardware to diagnose a specific chipset on that specific boot. Then the LED display would be used as a means of communication for the issue he was testing.
Ok. I was considering reaching out to Phil online via the contact form on his website but I’m guessing that wouldn’t help based on the context I’m picking up?

Sorry, I'm lost on the context you're referring to. Do you have one of these units? He's here at @Phil Bennett anyway.

No I don’t have a unit currently yet but I just meant that because Phil went about getting the board to work in a different way I assume based on the thread information and conversation. that contacting him via his website wouldn’t help. Yeah I figured that Phil was on here…

This is the context I meant I assume this strategy wouldn’t work in your guy’s case? With your boards?

re:my boards I have had two or three of these at this point, but they’re always dead before I find them.

Back then he was working with a combination of my boards and his boards, I sent him what I had at the time. I donated some of my remaining leftovers to @awbacon1 a while ago.

Between the two sets (and his skills) Phil got one working set. But his tools were purpose built for the situation at the time (power PC custom bios that would output helpful information about the set’s specific problems via the LEDs, iirc).

I have one last ditch attempt idea then I don't know what else to do; I asked U of C Engineering School if they had a student that wanted to collab on an engineering project. They can X-Ray boards there and I need to see if any internal traces are severed on the GPU board (due to the board flex its highly likely)

positioned it as saving a rare piece of hardware history where only 2 other known working examples exist. See if they bite

Without substantial x-ray imaging the GPU board just cannot be looked at much minus reballing everything and hoping for the best

Hi! :)

I have already removed the aluminum SMD capacitors because there were white marks on the casing.

I’ve ordered replacements in the meantime.
