Does anyone have a spare Konami GX ROM board in their junk pile? It can be any game, it doesn't even need to work, it just needs to have at least one good connector like this that I can harvest:

I have a Salamander 2 ROM board that has a slightly mangled connector that I'm looking to repair. The part number is helpfully on the silkscreen XH3B-0141-1A which is an OMRON part, but seems to be unobtanium. There are -A and -4A variants available but these have different stack heights so I would have to replace all four connectors on the board in order for it to sit level so wondering if I can just salvage one instead.

Yeah, that's the -A variant which isn't the same part, as I mentioned. The -A variant is 1mm shorter than the -1A part so while it might engage it's not going to be a snug connection as it will basically be permanently unplugged by 1mm due to the other three connectors being taller. I've confirmed with calipers, the part matches the silkscreen and datasheet.

The opposing connectors on the GX motherboard I have are fairly tall and there's nothing really on the underside of the ROM board so I can probably use these -A parts and not have anything foul, but that means I have to replace all four connectors, which means de- and re-soldering 400 joints instead of just 100.

Hi! :)

Now when I'm in a situation like yours, I don't bother to unsolder this type of connector in the rules of the art, because we do more harm than good, to the PCB, to the pads, etc.

Barbaric procedure No MERCY :D

I use the hot air station, I melt the plastic connector, which I remove, only the pins remain, and I remove them with the tip of the soldering iron and tweezers. And the holes that are filled with tin, I use the automatic desoldering pump

Top PCB, no burn, no torn track.

how much is that worth to you ?! :D :D

Thankfully I think the main GX board is fine, mine is the same type as yours with connectors on both sides. It's just the ROM board connector that is damaged, (not by me I hasten to add!), I'd hate to break up a working set.
I can harvest you a connector if that's all you need.
@nnap has kindly offered me a ROM board but if you can safely remove a connector you're much closer to me. I haven't tried to remove the broken connector on mine yet so I'm not sure how much of a fight it's going to put up.

The desoldering station should make light work of it, just need to find the rom board.

Okay I was wrong they're a nightmare to remove due to the amount of pins that are connected to a very large ground plane. I managed to get one off in good shape but the rest were damaged anyway. I suggest not messing with your rom board if it works but if you still want it I've got a connector.

I figured it might be non-trivial. The connector I need/want to replace is missing most of the plastic at one side so there are just a bunch of exposed pins floating. Miraculously they're still (mostly) straight so they line up with the mating socket still but it wouldn't take much to knock them out of shape. Thankfully the game still seems to play and the initial selftest passes so I think I've been lucky so far. Maybe they're all ground pins?

I'll PM you for the connector.
