My Salamander 2 game just goes black screen.
Without the game, there is some screen about connecting the sub board.
Where to start?

Bought a fully working board, same issue.
Mainboards both run fine with the other game but both black screen with Salamander 2 :(

Have a lot of spares now but where to start?

Can i simply put the roms on this one?
no, that large QFP chip is a security chip and is unique per game.

Assuming there is no physical damage to your rom-board (like cold solder joints on one of the chips) and the program ROMs are verified good, there's a good chance that the custom has failed.

If this was my board I would do the following:
1. dump and verify the socketed program ROMs
2. inspect the board carefully for any signs of corrosion or trace damage
3. inspect the pins on the ROM board connectors under magnification and reflow anything that looks even remotely imperfect.
4. inspect the security chip and nearby SMD chips for lose pins and reflow

Thanks but i did read that the board should show at least "something" even without any roms in the sockets.
Biggest problem is that someone did mess with it before me and he was not very gentle :(

Is there some switch on the mobo. With some konami games you need to press the switch to reset the NVRAM to allow it to recognise a new game.

Yes, you have to hold it down when powering the board.
But it did not help with my Salamander. The custom is dead i fear :(
