If there is one question I get constantly on any mod or repair video I publish its "I wish I knew how to solder"...so I made this. Seriously soldering is one of the easiest things to pick up and learn but it seems to be daunting to a lot of people. So I wanted to help change that! Because if even one person gets into soldering from the video I'll be happy

second most commented comment : "you only have this cause you are rich"...no...no I am not lolol. I wish!

Ah, yes, the bacon smell. Or the "pshhhh" sound. Who hasn't caught a soldering iron at the hot end when it slips off the table? (I didn't have a stand when I was younger so I was using an ash tray. When ash trays were still something people had at home...)
There is an amusing amount of stock photos where the models hold the soldering iron at the hot end...

You only pick a soldering iron up wrong once!

that’s why in the video I say set your stand up on your non dominant side so you reach across your body to grab it. When I put the iron on my right side I am prone to moving my hand to grab something else and knocking the iron

There are stock photos even worse than that. https://www.dreamstime.com/stock-photos-girl-soldering-iron-image29238453

I recently built my first radio. Was quite happy to find that soldering isn't terribly difficult. I'll be building a mt32-pi and replacing the batteries in my nes/snes carts soon.

Fresh assembly isn't too bad :) It's rework/desoldering that takes a bit more exp. Congrats on completing that first project. I remember the satisfaction of my 1st soldering job; a region switch on a sega saturn. The tutorial forgot to mention I had to cut a couple traces so I had a heart attack thinking I destroyed my Saturn, but a couple cut traces later I was good to go. Import gaming bliss.

Mt-32 on a pi sounds dope. I own an MT-100 which is MT-32 compatible, as well as a couple Roland SC-55 GM units. I use the SC-55s both for gaming and in my synth setup.

Thank you for making this. I learned how to do a lot of basic electronics troubleshooting and soldering during my first year in the Navy in 2008, but I never had to use any of it so I forgot it all. If something was broke we just removed it and replaced it, so I’m not sure why they even bothered trying to train us lol.

I now have a small pile of things I need to do with a soldering iron and need to learn everything again from zero.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to additional videos 😎.
