Long time lurker, first time poster! Can anyone recommend me a good supergun to start out with?

I bought the AXUN and the HAS!

The biggest difference I've noticed so far is that the HAS is great, and the AXUN won't be here for another 6-12 months 😜

I'll admit that I personally ended up canceling an Axunworks JJ-CBOX order after waiting nearly a year and ended up getting a second HAS instead. No regrets!
 
So the main thing that makes the Axun one so fucking insanely good compared to anything else available nowadays are two things.

1. Internal PSU
2. Handles JVS as well

There's other cool shit too, but those are mainly it.

For the PSU you can technically get around this by making an enclosure with a PSU + supergun in it or something, but I've never gotten around to that, so my other setups have pretty janky hookups to external PSUs in ways that are way less clean. It will work just as well, but be messier.

For JVS you could probably make at least as clean setups with a power supply and Iona USB nowadays, but its just nice to have an all-in-one box.

THAT SAID, the waitlist is definitely a thing so if I'd recommend someone starting out now, I'd say just go for the HAS or Minigun option despite not being as nice.

Sigma Raijin does but Sigma AV5000 does not. TB9000 external joystick includes autofire with a dial.
 
Sigma 8000TB has an oldschool form of button remapping/doubling:

You plug the wires in and out, left side is the input you want to remap, right side is the button you want it to go to, you get two buttons per input (or two inputs per button). It looks like this:

S3          A3
S3          D3
etc...


so if you want to have input 1 on buttons 1 and 3 you would do:

S1->A1
S1->A3

and remove the jumper from the second S3->D3, then you can apply autofire to only one of those for games with a charge shot like R-Type

Unfortunately this was removed from 9000TB, but that's what RECO is for

Is there an beginner guide for babies for setting up an off-the-rack arcade PSU for use with a HAS without electrocuting myself? I've always been skittish about stripping and wiring up stuff by myself. Or maybe an arcade PSU with a standard 3 prong edison jack already wired into it, to plug into the wall?

The HAS manual shows you which wires on its included harness go to which screws on the power supply:

As for the wall cord, you can purchase a prepared power cable from Amazon and then just attach it to the three screws in the power supply as per the manual photo.

In terms of risk of electrocutions, consider making an enclosure or something to cover up the 110v/230v screws.
 
Thanks for all the helpful advice guys! I ended up picking up a really nice Sigma Raijin after doing some research to have something for the time being while I wait on saving up for an Axunworks. I also kind of like the fact these old JDM Superguns have everything built in. I used to think they looked really jank, but now I see the appeal. I'm going to give it a nice tabletop setup with my BVM =]

Are there any known issues or information I should know going forward with a Raijin? Anything weird about cabling for example? I'm assuming I wouldn't want any resistors or anything in any scart cables like normal consoles?

I can vouch for the axunworks box. It can do JAMMA, JVS, autofire buttons, button remapping, kick harness support, has a built in power supply with voltmeter, adjustable 5v and 3.3v, and it's very well made. The accessories are excellent as well, especially the JAMMA extender with voltmeter. The HAS is also very well respected though I haven't used one personally. I think either one would suit your needs very well, though if you're going to do anything JVS (like Naomi) I would go for the Axunworks box.

As for controllers, any supergun with Neo Geo ports will allow you to use the Undamned USB decoders, which will allow you to use almost any USB arcade stick/controller you want with the setup. I can personally vouch for them as well.

Hey Captialsix! Just joined here myself (from the Neo Forums).

I can vouch for the Axun box as well - and the awesome accessories. I got mine in April 2021 and use it all the damn time. Exceedingly well built, feature rich, and easy to use. Drawback is it will probably take you a while to get it. Took 4 months and some change to get mine, but it was well worth the wait. I have it paired with a Sigma Super Pro - the best stick I've ever owned. Amazing combo. :)

Edit: Just saw your last post about the Raijin. Congrats! Good pick up.
