I'm interested in un-phoenixing an SSF IIX GMC b board in favor of an infinikey. It looks like I am missing a ROM board. Is there a workaround for this board? or will I have to acquire one in order to get the board up and running.

Pic of my Phoenix'd board.

You don’t need the ROM daughterboard for conversions done in this manner.

If the game is already running, albeit with phoenix ROMs, you just need to write the encrypted ROM images to chips 03 to 09, then install the InfiniKey.

I've always wondered what the daughter board was for.

Just for graphics chips. When SF2X was produced, larger capacity mask ROMs were either unavailable, or cost-prohibitive. Capcom used smaller capacity chips in greater number - more than the standard B-board can accommodate alone - hence the daughterboard. “G” PAL games are later games with the larger capacity mask ROMs.
