I suggest changing the thread title to, '[FS] Marvel Vs Capcom 2 Naomi ROM Cart'
is there a good wiki to read up on the distinction? I know there are CDs and Carts, ROM cart doesn't imply a boot or conversion, right?

Now I'm confused. I'll just describe exactly what it is and why I will refer to it as a DIMM cart.

This is a completely functional marvel vs Capcom 2 dimm board for the Naomi. I've only ever heard it called a DIMM when referring to a factory issued cartridge of a Naomi game. ROMs, to me, refer to the image (data) on the cartridge. This is not a ROM board in the sense that it hasn't been imaged or modified with software after production. That is to say that it hasn't been converted in any way, so far as I know, and I've owned it for over 10 years. I bought it from an old man who had it in his dentist's office for ages. I doubt it's ever been "converted".

I don't want this sale thread to turn into a semantics debate though. Although I appreciate the attempts to help, I'd like to sell this thing.

No. Being a ROM cart doesn't imply a bootleg or conversion at all. ROM stands for 'Read Only Memory' which is what @craigkeller's Marvel v. Capcom 2 cartridge uses to store the game data. DIMM stands for 'Dual Inline Memory Module' which is a RAM or 'Random Access Memory' interface. These are similar but distinct technologies.

Naomi DIMM boards require the game data to be loaded into them. Either from a network or a GD-ROM drive. The DIMM can only retain the game data as long as the Naomi is powered up or if the DIMM board has a battery, as long as the battery holds a charge. The game data on the ROM cartridge is permanent.
