So best Naomi board has been sitting here for quite a while and while I was testing arcade games I decided to plug it in. what behavior does it supposed to have when there's no game in? For example the neo Geo throws up a pattern on the screen whenever I boot it with no game inside. Also, I'm guessing the RCA jacks put out a typical audio signal it's not special like balanced or amplified right so I can use any amp?

Sound is typical line out level. So you can connect amplified pc speakers or a stereo amplifier.

Without a cartridge, it should show it's typical gray background with the naomi logo, as it has a bios chip.

I assume it will show an error at the bottom of the screen. No idea which one but I am sure people having naomi's can tell.

Also check your vga cable. If I remember well, the naomi outputs 5V on pin 9 of the cable. Some monitors gnd that pin.

Thanks I fired it up, it booted the Naomi screen then tossed an error 1. My test rig has a laptop lcd with vga to lvds converter seems to be ok. Waiting for my parts to arrive is like waiting for paint to dry I swear.

You should be able to boot up to a Naomi logo, get Error 1 which means it's missing a game.
From here you can run tests from the service buttons on the back filter board.
I'd do memory checks if you can to make sure you have a fully functioning unit with good RAM.
