MiSTer FPGA

Question, if I want to use them update_all script, do I have to wait for the script to be updated? I see some people are having issues with ROM sets.

If you have option 2 enabled and ran the mame updater then yes, probably have to wait..

@digitron I wonder if I have to enable the “beta” cores? This whole zip file “key” thing Jotego has got going on is fairly confusing tbh.
I'm catching up too brutha, been out of the mister game for a minute. Check this out - https://misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?t=2757#p27621

Though this would apply to the beta peeps.. I'm guessing once the core is public and added to the update all script you shouldn't have to do anything.

Heads up, it seems that even though the core is “public”, it’s still in “beta”. So you have to enable downloading of beta cores in the “update_all” script options which also downloads all the stuff behind the Jotego paywall/DRM key thingy… But them’s the breaks.

Anyone else tried the CPS-2 core? I've spent quite a bit of time with it and it's really slick, really rounds the arcade cores and device up a solid notch.

Unannounced cores (that I'm sure will come sooner or later) I'd like to see:
Mortal Kombat
Killer Instinct
Splatterhouse
IGS/PGM
Toaplan V1/2
Konami TMNT/Simpsons/X-Men
SEGA System 18/32
IREM M72/M92
Taito F1/F2

I would like to see KI&2, MK1-3Ultmate and I’m all setup with all my fighting games:)

nice bonus - Cave mushisama 1&2 but not a must have..

Saw this on Aliexpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002862595291.html

Looks like a slimline singular integrated I/O Board with option for either VGA output or Saturn (S-Video, Composite or RGB). Power is also USB-C. Interesting, but given the track record of MiSTer goods from Aliexpress, who knows how this will perform.

Thanks for the info.

I ordered the Saturn version. If it works, it could be pretty great.

If not, I'll blame you 😉

I'm interested in this because I'm not thrilled with the component output from the IO board that I have. The component output is pretty dark. Not a huge deal if used on its own input. Very annoying when trying to share the same input with several other devices.

I have the Saturn adapter for the hd retrovision genesis 2 component cable. That cable has 2 brightness levels built it, so it's more flexible.

Composite and svideo might be cool to have as well.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but i need your help:

I use my mister both on a 15khz CRT and 31Khz VGA monitor with a different .ini file. On the VGA monitor all cores work with no problems, but on the CRT a few cores like Neo Geo and CPS2 simply doesn't display image. I only get a tiny frame of picture that looks like it is trying to sync but i can't see anything.

I've tried VGA port on the I/O; HDMI to VGA with "direct video" turned on; i've tried different kinds of sync (composite on/off etc.) but nothing works with these 2 cores in 15khz mode.

Any idea what i can try? Any .ini file that i can download and try?

Many thanks in advance

How are you connecting to your CRT

Could be an issue with the cable? Make sure the sync is correct for that cable.

You can generate a fresh .ini here: https://ini.misterkun.io/

Have you got an individual core settings setup in your .ini or have you messed with any of the options in the core menu?

I've tried VGA to scart cable on a CRT TV and used a VGA cable connected to my arcade cabinet with a trisync monitor. Only those 2 cores refuse to work, that is what i find strange...
If something was wrong, shouldn't all the other cores show the same problem in 15khz?

I haven't messed with the core menu because i got the problem with CPS2 as soon as i got it.

I already know https://ini.misterkun.io/ but can you please guide me on the exact options i should choose to display a 15khz picture?

Thank you for your help

Cores output at their original native resolution over the “vga” port. Meaning, if it’s 15khz, it will be output at 15khz. HDMI obviously is a different situation.

It could be an issue with your cables, sync on your monitor or even the SD card. I’d try a fresh install and nuke what you already have.

I don’t know what cable you’re using, so I won’t give blanket advice for “15Khz”. Eg, I’m using a VGA2SCART from Tim Worthington which combines the H/V sync, so I don’t need composite sync set. Depending on your cable, you may or may not need this.

Best way would be to use MiSTerKun and select the appropriate settings for your cable. A fresh ini might help out. Then if that doesn’t work try troubleshooting/refreshing your SD card.

That is why i've asked if anyone can point out a .ini file to download, one that i know for sure works in 15Khz with no problems.

Please re-read my reply.

Cores output at their native resolution. 15khz, 24khz, whatever.

There isn’t an .ini file that will give you 15khz.

You will have to tweak the .ini in relation to your cables and displays specification.

It sounds like you’ve already tried this and it hasn’t worked. Best thing to do would be to format the SD card and start from scratch.

I really appreciate your help and i think i understood your post.

But other cores i play like SNES or Genesis or even CAVE, all output in 15Khz and i have no problem with those. Obviously i could be wrong and i'm kind of noob on this matter, but if those cores work with my setup (cables; TV; chassis; etc.) i don't think this should be "cable related" and i'm more inclined towards a .ini problem.

But i will keep searching and trying. Thanks again for the feedback.

I would try a SD refresh honestly. There’s a slight chance cores or your card might have some kind of corruption. Just backup anything that’s not automatically downloaded with them update_all script and start fresh. Should take 30-45 mins of your time.

If you have video working on other cores, I don’t think it’s an .ini issue. The .ini settings are universal for all cores, unless you have core specific settings in there. Which if you do, you should remove them (they’re indicated using square brackets in the .ini, eg. [NeoGeo]).

I had trouble with only the Genesis core on my old TV and I had to add this section to the ini:

[Genesis]

; 320:224 Sega Genesis (NTSC)
video_mode_ntsc=320,20,29,35,224,10,14,16,6400
vsync_adjust=0

This forced the mister to use this mode for that core.

Maybe you should try something similar.
