What's new

MiSTer FPGA

I have wasted my time for 2 Days on Mister and tested my favorite games. I have found some graphic bugs on Neogeo core.

Realized an error ın Metal Slug X. Look at Marco's legs. They are missing :)
There are some bugs on Metal Slug 3 too. İf you throw bombs rapidly, you can see some vertical lines which are bugs.

The first picture is Mister Neogeo Core

Second picture is FBN Emulator.

If it's your thing, Puzzle Uo Poko from CAVE just came out as Beta on nullobjects page. Finally played ESP Ra. De. too -- it is very good! Only issue with the new Beta core is that I can't get credits in Dangun Feveron. I hear the coin up sounds, but they're not being registered by the game. Anyone having this issue with the new core?

Looks like Guwange and Gaia Crusaders aren't far off either... pretty, pretty, pretty, good...

This should be EVERYONE who is trying to GET RID of their significant other's thing. I mean, seriously, it's almost driven my wife and I to divorce like three times. We've played it together like, three times.
His second wave of games for this core is pretty next level:
  • Air Gallet
  • DonPachi
  • Sailor Moon
  • Hotdog Storm
  • Pac-Slot
Yeah, I've offered up some PCBs his way, so hopefully some good shit coming eventually. Sadly, he says Sailor Moon is a bit tricky. I'm assuming it's a chip on there that is different.

Hotdog Storm 🤣 how did it end up with that title? I expected it to be a hot dog themed shmup...was disappointed when it wasn’t food themed

Is there any place where to get the DE-10 Nano boards in Europe for an acceptable price?

Jotego has a lot cooking. After finishing System 16 he’s confirmed to be doing M72, Toaplan V1, Namco System 1, Konami 6809, Raiden 2 and Diet Go Go…

Also hints at PGM and Mortal Kombat… MiSTer truly is the gift that keeps giving… HYPE.

Although it is exciting to see new support for so many upcoming games and platforms, I hope Jotego slows down a little bit to focus more on accuracy as well. I know that he occasionally goes back to address prior core flaws, but there are still many inaccuracies that would be nice to see addressed. Core inaccuracies sour the "MiSTer as a substitute for original hardware" in my mind.

A few current inaccuracy examples:

- The bubbles don't spread out from the center of the screen on the Bubble Bobble opening.
- Music and sfx volume levels aren't balanced against each other to match original hardware with CPS1.
- The star field in the background of Strider and Forgotten Worlds doesn't render properly.

Ditto for other non-Jotego cores - the Neo Geo core has long had a problem with one of the audio channels that makes the music sound "off" on many games, which is why I still use my MVS hardware in the cab.

I dunno - maybe those kinds of things don't bother most people, but for me personally those kinds of flaws are why I never cared much for emulation and although MiSTer is better than a software emulator, it's still the same vibes. I think MAME ended up in a similar place where it quickly ramped up to support a ton of games, but the emulation of many of them is flawed.

Have you reported these errors?

Yes, and while I agree with you on the idea, I disagree that it is actually happening. Jotego DOES go back and fix things when able, this week is a great example of this, as it's all going back to implement chip discoveries to fix things (such as the Contra barrel issue).

The problem is, a lot of those you listed are due to chips no one has decaped and understand yet. The Strider star field being a prime example. It's been wrong in MAME for 20+ years for the same reason (how they implement the star pattern is a cheat to make it look correct).

You're hand wringing a problem that doesn't exist, ie Jotego speeding ahead while leaving "fixable" bugs behind. He usually goes back when a bug can be fixable. So, bottomline, don't let it sour your mood on MiSTer!

:)

I think jotego has enough professional experience & pride in his work + a healthy dose of OCD, so I have 100% confidence in his work, which I can't say for many others. He works for Analog Devices, probably my all time favorite IC maker and judging by the quality of their data-sheets and products, they must have some really good people working for them.

The source for everything except audio is probably the 68000 cpu which he did not write.

It's probably the source for a lot of bugs in cores that don't belong to him as well. He is working on debugging it, though that may take some time.
