Monitor Damage from shipping

After having STI’s “white glove” service completely destroy a Neo cab, I won’t ship cabs again.

These cabs aren’t $500 anymore. It seems hoping on a plane, renting a uhaul and driving it back is the only sure way to guarantee it’s safe delivery.
 
if the monitor is in a box, they can only clamp down on a box. if your cab is blanketed, they cant scratch your cab. if the seller instructs the shippers on how to properly tie down the cab, you will be fine.

Not true, a blanket isnt going to protect the cab from a forklift, or in the case of my Neo cab being tipped over and having one side crushed.

Also, you can tell the people loading your cab on the initial truck to secure it however, but that doesnt mean it will be secured that way on the next truck its loaded on. These are not loaded on a truck and then directly driven to the destination, they often get transferred to different trucks and unloaded at multiple warehouses just like any logistics service. Look at the tracking history from CRST/STI/Beltman/Michelle Bianchi whomever, and you will see your cab making multiple stops before reaching you.
 
idk who is lifting a cab unpalatized with a forklift. even woodies should be done on a hand cart. obviously it was someone at beltman or their subcontractor that was at fault but making sure whatever leaves your door is packed properly for such a journey is the most important step in assuring it reaches the destination in 1 piece.
 
I agree that you can only do so much before someone in the chain of custody does something stupid that damages the cab. However, I also agree with the point that a bare minimum of prep is necessary to reduce the chance of incidental damage; throw a blanket over the screen, raise the levelers, ask them to stretch wrap the blanket to the cab, tell them not to use straps across the top of the cab, and that's about all you can do. The rest is in their hands.

I get Niko's position, for the least amount of risk, go get it yourself. But not everyone can, so you have to take the risk of shipping it through third parties if you want it.
 
Yea, I would never hand a bare cab to delivery. Always wrap it with plastic wrap first, then some pearl foam outside, maybe another layer of cardboard, and the most important crate outside.

I was more referring to someone in the warehouse using a forklift where the cab is sitting waiting to be loaded on the next truck. Accidents happen, and i could imagine its very easy to overshoot when driving a forklift and accidentally hit something.

Anyways, I agree that wrapping and doing everything you can to ensure a safe delivery is a good idea, Its just not fool proof. IMO if you're going to spend ~$2000 on an arcade cabinet save the $500 in shipping and buy a plane ticket + uhaul rental. It might cost a few hundred extra in the long run but you'll get your cab home faster and without risking some idiot dropping it off a dock.
 
standard LTL trucking is even worse like if you ship with fedex or saia express or who ever, compared to beltmann, I have had very little issues with beltmann/crst/sti, shipping and usually if there are some kinda nicks or something its due to a hired 3rd party last mile delivery that has no idea how to move stuff like so you cant 100% fault them for having to hire people in town to get a box truck the last mile to your location. Only once did we ever have catastrophic damages with beltmann during delivery out of all the machines I delivered which I cant even tell you how many that is at this point now. But after submitting all the documents proof of repair costs etc they refunded us for all the damages.

Which reminds me you should take before photos of the unit from all 4 sides before and after wrapping for delivery. I do this for every order and even take a photo of how the machines are loaded on the origin trailer at pickup. This will absolutely save your ass if you ever had serious issues come up.

I recommend plastic wrap and card boarding at minimum if your ever doing a floor load transport be it your self or with another delivery company.
If its palletized you probably should still at least plastic wrap it and make sure its strapped or anchored some how to the pallet you should also allow at minimum 2 to 4 inches on all sides when an item is on a pallet or crated pallet.

Shipping bare CRT's is kinda wild though never done it and theres a dozen ways to do that I guess. My gut says to either crate it into a pallet, buy or rent a flight/pelican case or find a way to hand pick it up or something. It seems excessive for only a 300~ dollar item but considering how fragile a bare CRT is and that 98% of people will not know how to load or strap that uhh yeah.

It will be a flat tube not curved, so you may have gaps in the bezel. You can use black foam weather stripping to seal the gaps if you are not super OCD about it.
 
So- try a polishing wheel and novus 2 gently. Go up to 3 if you want to strip the A/G coating off completely. I wonder if a Magic Eraser would work- but I'd think you'd still need to Novus 2 after. This doesn't look bad enough to sand- not by a mile- and looks completely fixable! I think you lucked out if it didn't scratch the glass itself. DM me if you get stalled out.

My tosh PF tube in my EG3 has some like round spots of missing glare protector it somewhat bothers me but I never cared enough to effort the buffing lol.
I seen it done and the results usually come out well you lose the anti glare but on the flip side your picture is actually brighter lol
 
Yeah I have an Astro where the anti-glare is all kinds of jacked up... it's annoying sometimes, but not annoying enough that I care to exert the effort to polish the screen out. Plus I'd hate to mess it up in the process.

But I totally get why someone would do it! I'd do it too if the screen was exceptionally messed up to the point where it was causing me unhappiness.
