Hello all. I’m looking for a compact flash that has mortal kombat 2. I have an old killer instinct 2 cabinet and use a compact flash currently. I mean… can’t I just swap these out? Any info is helpful thank you.

So I can’t just swap this one for another? Geez. I know nothing about this stuff. Thanks guys.

Let me ask you this. I’ll check out the link but maybe …. Should I just ditch my guts in this machine and find something else? What’s the best way to convert…. I just want to turn this into a MK2 cabinet.

you can think of the PCB in your cabinet like a "console" and the CF as well as the ROM chips (and there are several ROM chips on Killer instinct) as the "cartridge"

the "KI console" only runs 2 games: KI1 and KI2. MK2 runs on a completely different "console" known as the "Midway T-Unit".

So your question is a bit like saying "can anyone sell me a Super Mario World Cart for my Sega Genesis?"

If you want to run MK2 in that cabinet you will want to buy a whole Mortal Kombat 2 PCB set

A MK2 PCB set will likely set you back around $300-$400, the good news is that a working KI board set is worth over $800, so if you were looking to make a permanent change you can likely fund the purchase of a MK2 board set with the sale if your KI board set.

I don't know what cabinet you've got but if it's a dedicated cabinet (meaning: originally manufactured as the game) I would strongly advise keeping it as the original game otherwise you'll be significantly devaluing the cabinet. Original Dedicated KI or MK2 cabinets are usually worth over $2K (depending on condition) but converted the cabinet without the board drops to only a few hundred bucks. something to consider.

Not to mention that the control panel on KI is different than MK.

Well your articulation of my situation has caused my path to change. I didn’t realize the value of my machine. So no.. I will be not changing anything. I’ll build one from scratch. Thank you both for your information and patience with a dim wit. Thanks again.

I wouldn't even build a MK, you can find a nice cabinet for around $1200. I'd sell the KI2 (if in original cabinet) for $2k, buy a nice MK for $~1200 and enjoy a nice steak dinner with the remaining $800.
