Bought a NAC with a "dead/faulty monitor" a while ago. I've had a lot of luck with repairing dead MS9 chassis, and the cab is in good condition so I thought I'd take a chance.

Today I removed the tube from the cab and immediately noticed that the anode cap wasn't properly attached to the tube. Upon closer inspection, I see that the metal clip is actually broken:

Interesting. I haven't tried to take the anode cap apart yet, is this fixable?

Another challenge is probably to find a replacement metal clip somewhere?

Thanks nem.

Good news: the tube works. Tested it with another MS9 chassi, and it looks great.

So next step is to figure out how to take it apart. I don't have any dead flybacks or TVs that I can grab the clip from, but I'll check with some friends.

Progress update. I fixed this a few days ago, and thought I'd document everything here.

I got a replacement anode cap + clip from a friend. Unused and very similar to the one on the MS9 flyback:

Here's what the old broken one looks like, it's soldered together with the wire:

So I just cut it and stripped the wire:

And here it is with the new clip installed:

I soldered the wire onto the clip (don't have any pics of that, but I made sure it was a strong connection) and put everything back again:

Next step, installing everything back on the tube (also recapped the chassis while I had everything in front of me). Quick test just to make sure nothing explodes:

Success! I've had it running for a couple of hours now without any problem. Time for a beer. :)
