Namco Noir cabinet coin slot

So I have this issue with my Namco noir cabinet. Me and my wife have been trying to figure this out for hours. I’m trying to make the coin slot activate the coin switch when you insert a coin but it keeps going to the return slot. I’m trying to use quarters but I’m not sure if it’s compatible? Is there a switch or screw I need to fix? I’m not too familiar with the noir cabinets. Any input would help.

a 100yen mech,
why not replace it or use an electronic comparater where you clip the wanted coin into it and it looks for a match? those are only about $10
