Hi guys.
I wish to ask people for insights for fixing the troubles i am encountering on my Naomi 1 and 2 after months of not playing them.
My Naomi 1 have a bad IC18. does anyone know where I can get the replacement RAM chip?

My netdimm is working on the Naomi 1. I did a dimm board test and all shows good. games load fine. just that there are visual glitches and slowdowns in some games on the Naomi 1.
which now brings us to naomi 2's problem.

with the netdimm attached, the naomi 2 does not boot. it remains at a black screen.
i used a normal cart and it plays. even the ram test shows that the ICs are all GOOD on the Naomi 2. the cartridge's Ram are all good as well.
i tried using the new multibios that can play AW conversions and the original B bios. no dice.
i tried booting up the Naomi 2 without anything in the slot. the white naomi 2 screen hangs there without any error message and i can't enter test mode.
I have no idea what is wrong with the Naomi 2 and i hope someone can chime in on what to do about it.
Thank you.

Look up the reference for your ram on IC18, (I think it's some hynix chip), remove it with a heatgun or low melting point alloy like chipquick SMD1, order the part on ebay/farnell/mouser... and solder it to your board (this requires advanced soldering skills).

About the NAOMI2, does the bios throws in an error such as ERROR 01 or does it just hang? Have you tried using another BIOS IC?

Maybe you need to check the voltages on both mobo s also you need to rip of the Supercaps on both the mobo s . If they leak and they will do they eat the traces to the ic. They have no use so get rid of them

No use at all? That's pretty interesting.
The Supercap is used to retain per game settings (wiped when changing games anyway), when changing the CR2032 battery (assuming it wasn't dead). It's virtually useless. I removed it on all my Sega boards (it's also on triforce/chihiro)

Interesting. Do the per game settings (and subsequently battery+supercap) mean anything really? I mean, in an arcade setting sure, there's probably settings saved like credit values, difficulty, etc... Anything like MVC2 saving the unlocked characters or anything though? Last post on this, I don't mean to derail the help thread...

It doesn't matter, the data is kept so long as 1. you don't change the game/gameid 2. the CR2032 isn't dead.

The supercap only keeps the data for about 5 minutes after the CR2032 died or was removed, just long enough for someone to swap to a new CR2032 (before it dies). A new CR2032 will last for years by the way.

did you try the Naomi 2 with a Naomi 2 game? I have some N2s that will work fine in 'Naomi 1' mode. If you attach a Net Dimm, it will go into Naomi 2 mode and might fail there.
This is normally due to a bad GPU on the N2. Unfortunately there is no easy fix if you have GPU issues.

one of the heatsink and fan was detached when i received the naomi 2.
i tested it with the netdimm late last year and it was ok. now months later, i applied thermal paste on the chip and stuck the heatsink and fan on the chip with kapton tape to try to play some games after my naomi 1 had the error.
i guess the chip is toast. should have returned it when i saw the damage.
now i have to save up money to buy another naomi 2.

the naomi 2 screen just hangs without anything attached. i dont have a N2 game to test. i tried with the new multibios and an original B bios and the problem persists.
