Naomi Mobo RAM error: IC9. Send to Ken or something else I can do?

Aargg, randomly got a RAM bad check on IC9. Games either wouldn't show picture on the title screen or locked up on title screen .

Are there compatible RAM that's easy to replace it with , and I can have a local do the repair ?

Or does everyone just contact irepairsega and send it to Ken ?

Does it hang at ic9 or actually show ic9 is bad?

You can use any PC133 SDRAM DIMM on ebay that has 16M chips on it.

Or get HY57V1616100 on ebay.
 
I am acutally in the process of doing this same repair, I have Naomi 1 board that just hangs on IC9 during the test. So I am replacing IC9 and IC10. I ordered 4 x HY57V651620BTC-7 HYUNDAI DRAM Chip SDRAM 64Mbit 4Mx16 3.3V

Hopefully they get here this weekend, and I can solder them up.
 
"Hang" on IC9 doesn't mean IC9 is bad. It could be another RAM like IC116 and IC118

If it's a Naomi 2, put in a Naomi 1 game a run the test. That will test all the N1 RAMs, it could be one of them.

Don’t mean to hijakck the op thread. My main issue was Naomi 1 booted up super slow. Which pointed me to the video ram, so ic9 and ic10. And if you know a better test let me know please.
 
There is a thread on here somewhere about the infamous IC9 hang.

Long story short, unless the diagnostics show IC9 as an error, a hang on it doesn't necessarily mean IC9 is bad. It can be another RAM chip failure and still cause IC9 to hang. It is quite a frustratingly poor self test system.
 
Hmmm well fingers crossed, already started the ram replacement.

Hijack away, I haven't worked up the stomach to do all this yet so I'm interested to hear how you do!

I did order replacement chips but haven't tried to install them

I have to fiddle w all my Naomi stuff again because I have to get World Series Baseball running for baseball season.

I only have a USA WSB CP so I'm in the fun world of going through all old threads to wire it to my blast city ;p

And even more fun is fixing these mobos. ;/ ;/
