Hey!

So I'm sure this type of question has been asked a million times before but I thought it might be helpful to gather any information. The goal here is to gather information for all sorts of peripherals for Naomi games that require special hardware and possibly pin it as a guide.

The goal is to gather info on wheels for driving games, IR sensors for HotD, and even something like THE ROD used in Marine Fishing.

For selfish reasons, I finally got a Net Dimm set up and have been hooked all day. Any information you can provide I will do my best to organize and present here. That said, I'll reserve the next 3 or 4 posts just to keep organized.

(Mods, delete if you find this thread useless or better served by something already existing.)

Cheers! :D

Sounds great to me! A one stop shop for understanding how diverse this platform can be will be fun. It's an information hunt. :)

Naomi games that require special hardware
The list of mine that @MetalliC posted does indeed capture all of the different control/input configurations used by NAOMI games in the "cab-type" column. joystick and button games are "normal", vertical joystick and button games are "vertical" any other input type that is shared by more than one game has a name (such as "baseball" or "gun") and anything with a 1-off unique input is "special"

I'm not sure why you want to capture this information in a single thread, most of the non-joystick setups are extremely complex. for instance I wrote a 4-part article on just the Type II gun system: http://solid-orange.com/1611 that alone would blow out all of your reserved posts already and I would think mixing that information in with info from other games and peripherals would make an already difficult subject even more difficult to follow.

Then you have other peripherals unrelated to controls such as VMU and the Versus Billboard system: http://solid-orange.com/1431

both of which are also referenced in the spreadhsheet

The goal was to organize links to those set ups. I understand that the sreadsheet shows which games require which peripheral and that like you said there's threads listing set ups. However, there's nothing linking the two as far as I can find. I didn't intend to rewrite all of the great work that people like you did but was hoping it could serve as an index of sorts.

I personally was having trouble finding pages like those and figured others may be having a similar problem. If you don't find it useful, feel free to delete this thread though. I didn't mean to cause any trouble.

Thanks. :)

Ah, gotcha, that makes more sense. from your original post it sounded like you wanted to consolidate all of the information in this thread.

@Foxe as for my taste, the best source of information is games service manuals or/and wiring diagrams, where can be seen everything: which inputs game uses and how, which additional IO boards or devices game uses, their's part numbers, how they wired to game board and mechanical devices, how wired outputs (lamps, etc).

I'd love to see well organized collection of NAOMI manuals, so any interested person may read them and get all the answers on his NAOMI game-related questions.
